Remember when you fell in love, maybe for the first time?
It was all-consuming, all you thought about was that one person. It was self-sacrificing–you’d do anything for him or her, anything it took to keep them in love with you.
You wanted to feel their touch, to smell their smell, to hear their words, and continuously to be in their presence.
You may be surprised to know that this is how God feels about YOU!
The ability to Love is the primary characteristic we share with God. He is honestly and truly madly in love with each one of us. How do we return that love?
Do you remember how it felt when someone you loved turned his or her back on you? It was heart-breaking, nearly tore you apart. You’d given your all, and they had ignored it. You’d reached out for them and they’d shoved you away. You’d run after them, calling for them to come back, but they were too far away to hear you, or care.
Is this how we often respond to God’s Love for us? After all, He has given us free will, and along with that comes the capability to ignore Him.
But isn’t it odd that we do ignore Him? We ignore LOVE personified in Jesus Christ. We ignore His sacrifice for us, his desire to be with us. We ignore His presence in every other human being. We do not see our best lover right there in front of us.
One morning I woke up with this song in my mind, and it became my love song to the one who is madly in love with us. Remember this old Bee Gees song?
How deep is your love, how deep is your love
I really need to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You’re the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You’re my savior when I fall
